A Thai Vietjetair Airbus A320-200, registration HS-VKN performing flight VZ-106 from Bangkok to Chiang Mai (Thailand), was descending towards Chiang Mai when the crew reported a cargo smoke indication. The aircraft continued for a safe landing on Chiang Mai’s runway 36.

Thailand’s AIB reported the aircraft sustained minor damage, rated the occurrence a serious incident and opened an investigation stating: “During descent, smoke was detected in the aft cargo hold and the fire extinguisher was discharged. The aircraft declared an emergency and landed safely.”

The aircraft remained on the ground in Chiang Mai for about 32 hours, positioned back to Bangkok and resumed service.
