An Easyjet Europe Airbus A320-200, registration OE-IJR performing flight U2-4736 from Chania (Greece) to Nantes (France) with 186 people on board, was enroute at FL340 about 60nm southwest of Brindisi (Italy) when the crew reported smoke in the cabin and diverted to Brindisi for a safe landing on runway 31 about 20 minutes later. The aircraft vacated the runway and taxied to the apron. Attending emergency services found no fire on board.
A replacement Airbus A320-200 registration OE-LSN departed Brindisi the following morning and reached Nantes with a delay of about 20.5 hours.
The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Brindisi about 32 hours after landing.
