Smoke in the cockpit upon initial climb forces crew of Ryanair flight to declare Mayday

A Ryanair Boeing 737-8 MAX, registration EI-HGM performing flight FR-3642 from Bucharest Otopeni (Romania) to Marseille (France) with 194 people on board, was in the initial climb out of Bucharest’s runway 26R when the crew declared Mayday, Mayday reporting smoke in the flightdeck requesting emergency services to be ready for landing and stopped the climb at 5000 feet. The aircraft returned to Bucharest for a safe landing on ruwnay 26L about 15 minutes after departure.

A replacement Boeing 737-800 registration EI-EBZ reached Marseille with a delay of about 3:!5 hours.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Bucharest about 9 hours after landing.
